Odor Characteristic: Clove Bud absolute smells very much like the botanical material itself and the odor is about twice as strong as the steam distilled essential oil with no trace of the terpene notes. Odor is oily-sweet, intensely rich and spicy, slightly sour-fruity and very refreshing with woody backnotes. Dryout is powerful, sweet, creamy rounded, full-bodied penetrating spiciness.

About the Plant

The evergreen clove tree can grow to 60 feet or more with large oval leaves and clusters of pale flowers that turn from green to bright crimson when ready for harvesting the buds. Most of the commercial output comes from Indonesia, followed by Madagascar and Tanzania.

Perfumery The absolute is especially useful in floral perfumes in which a spicy note is wanted and does not impart the unwanted off notes of its steam distilled counterpart.
