The Descendants of James and Amy Stitt of Pittstown, New York

Note: I'm updating this page slightly in July 2013 to anounce that my cousin Lawrence (Larry) Stitt, who was the researcher of these data, died on July 4, 2013. May he Rest in Peace.

Here is a complete line list for the Descendants of James and Amy Stitt, which includes the brothers and sisters, and may be useful for tracking family interconnections or lack thereof. Because the naming tradition is patrilineal, and we are researching the STITT name, I have omitted the extensive list of non-STITT names that are included in my cousin Lawrence STITT's complete work, "James and Amy STITT of Pittstown, New York and Some of their Descendants (1734 - 1988)".

This branch of the STITT family originated in the Troy, New York area (Pittstown); moved to Tecumseh, Michigan in 1834; and then scattered to the four winds; of course leaving behind concentrations of STITT's in each area. My own line settled in South Dakota, but most of my generation has moved on to other places, with my generation of cousins in California, Washington, South Dakota, and many other places.

Ironically, I lived for two years in Albany, New York and was unaware of the fact that this was where my ancestors had come from. I had a note that my Great-Grand-Father was born in Troy, but didn't actually get into that while I was living there. It's only after I left and moved back to the west that I learned from my cousin Lawrence's notes that I had lived only a few miles from Pittstown (by Western standards it was practically next door).

Numbers represent generations, and are in birth order. From Lawrence's Book, except for 0, which I arbitrarily assigned to the legendary Scots-Irish sea captain who is the progenitor of us all.
Where items are blank, it either represents missing information, or I haven't gotten it filled in yet. Check the orginal work if in doubt, or e-mail me.
The original of this table was typed in in MS Word for Windows, using the outline feature. It was then converted to a table and saved as an html file. The current version is being edited and added to in FrontPage 98.
I have a life, so the completion of this table may be delayed indefinitely. Sorry.
